В некоторых странах участник расчета в системе перевода денежных средств или ценных бумаг направляет другим участникам расчета и получает от других участников расчета денежные средства или ценные бумаги с использованием одного или более счетов в расчетном учреждении с целью осуществления расчета по переводам денежных средств или ценных бумаг в системе. Другим участникам требуются услуги участника расчета для осуществления расчета по их позициям. В настоящее время в ЕС прямые участники по определению также являются участниками расчета.
